Dear Parents and Junior Golfers,
Welcome to the 2013 Tyrone Hills Junior Golf Program! Started 36 years ago, our Junior Golf Program is one of the longest running, largest, and most successful programs in the state. We welcome ALL kids to participate, whether experienced in the game or having never played. For hundreds of area youngsters over the years this program has been their introduction to the game of golf. We are very proud of that and encourage any junior who has never played golf but might be interested in the game. Our mission is to teach our junior golfers sportsmanship and to help them gain confidence through meeting new friends and improving their skills. We are confident that any junior who is willing to listen and give their best will learn a game that they will enjoy for a lifetime.
Every year we look to incorporate teaching the fundamentals of the game with allowing our juniors to play rounds with their friends. There will be clinics set up throughout the junior golf season. We recommend that juniors take part in as many clinics as they can. During the clinics the kids will receive professional instruction on the fundamentals of both the short game and the full swing and they will be able to hit many practice balls. Please take part in as many of these clinics as you can. Of course when it comes to practice – more is better.
The Junior Golf Program has four divisions: The 3-hole division is for kids 8-10 years old. The 6-hole division is for kids 10-12. The 9 hole division is for junior golfers 13 and older.
We also offer an 18-hole division on Friday mornings for juniors 13 and older who wish to play each week in a more competitive environment. If a junior golfer age 13 and older meets any of these criteria, he or she will be eligible to play in the 18-hole division:
- Is currently a member of an area high school golf team
- Has knowledge of the rules of golf and of golf etiquette, and has previously shot rounds in the low 100’s or lower.
As a new component to this year’s Junior Program, each junior golfer will be given a golf booklet that our entire staff feels is a VERY valuable tool. The booklet includes not only great golf instruction, but also has sections on golf etiquette and rules. It also provides valuable and easy to follow information on nutrition and fitness. There are also many fun games outlined in the booklet that juniors can play. We highly recommend this booklet created by the PGA of America and we ask that all parents take the opportunity to go over the booklet with their junior as something they can learn together. Please encourage and assist your child in using this fine learning tool.
The details for the 2013 Program and a registration form are inside. Can’t wait to see you this summer on the Course!
